Mindful Introduction to Drawing
u
January 16-17, Friday
7:00 pm - Saturday 4:00 pm |
Presenter:
Jennifer Kiersted
Have you ever been "of two minds" about
learning to draw? Perhaps you've felt a yearning to draw, quickly followed
by some inner conflict? That's not surprising in our culture, which actually
discriminates against the right side of the brain! Drawing isn't for the
anointed few; although neglected, it's a skill as basic as learning how to
talk. We'll use exercises from Betty Edwards' updated classic, The New
Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, together with the latest findings of
brain research--and some other surprises-- that will leave you looking at
the world very differently. There will be periods of intense exploration
interspersed with rest, for reflection and processing. Together with your
own drawings, you will take home a starter kit to keep your right brain
happier than it's been in years. This retreat is for men and women of all
ages and artistic abilities. Fee: $45.00. Pre-register with fee by 1/9/09.
Jennifer Wilder Kierstead
is an artist, writer and business woman. She is a two-time Small
Business Innovation Research award winner and mother of two daughters, who
started developing her artistic skills more mindfully three years ago at the
age of 51. Her undergraduate degree is in Science, Technology and Society:
Program in Critical Thought, Vassar College. She wants to share her
knowledge and excitement about what she is learning about the human brain,
getting older and making art.

Balm in Gilead: Forgiving and Letting Go u February 6-7, Friday
7:00 pm - Saturday 4:00 pm |
Presenter: Rev. Karen Lewis Foley
We can run but we can't hide. Every one
of us hurts others and is hurt, either by intention or by accident, and
every one of is called upon to forgive and stands in need of forgiveness.
This teaching is at the heart of most spiritual traditions. Yet if we're
honest, both forgiving and requesting forgiveness can be a stumbling block
in our spiritual lives. Informed by various spiritual traditions, we will
explore forgiveness in our own lives-its presence and absence, our embrace
of and resistance to it. Come with your heart and spirit as they are; you
will not be "required" to forgive anyone, just to be open to exploring and
reflecting. Fee $ 85.00
